We analyzed every major crypto hack since 2021. Here’s what we found.
The 2026 State of Onchain Security report is out. 425 hacks. Five years of data. One very clear picture.
The good news: the median hack is down from $4.5M to $2.2M. Smaller exploits are getting less damaging. Security practices are maturing. Progress is real.
The bad news: the market has gotten harsher, not kinder. Hacked tokens now lose a median 61% of their value within six months, up from 53%. And 84% of hacked tokens never recover within that window. The average hack still costs $25M (11x the median) because a handful of catastrophic breaches drag everything up. The top five exploits in 2024–2025 accounted for 62% of all funds stolen. Bybit alone was 32% of the two-year total.
And here's the part that should keep everyone up at night: the initial theft is just the start. Behind it comes a collapsing token price, an evaporating treasury, departing team members, and at least 3 months of lost productivity.

America’s first crypto bank is building its security layer on Immunefi
Anchorage Digital didn’t just sign a partnership. They bought in.
The operator of America’s first federally chartered crypto bank made a strategic Ventures Portfolio Company purchase of IMU and tapped Immunefi to secure Porto, its self-custody wallet where institutional firms deploy onchain investment strategies.
Translation: the bank trusted with custodying billions in digital assets looked at the crypto security landscape and picked Immunefi as infrastructure.

Hacker pledging Season 2 launch
Season 1 wrapped March 9. Season 2 started the same day and runs through July 7 with a 4.5M IMU bonus pool (3x Season 1) and a $3.5M payout target. Every bug bounty paid during the season unlocks more of that pool proportionally.
The split is now 50/50 between researchers and their backers. Researchers need at least 10,000 IMU in backing to unlock their full bonus on a report. If you believe a researcher is going to find the next critical, back them.

$2.7M paid to security researchers. In one month.
March was a fantastic payout month at Immunefi, with notable individual reports coming from bpop23293 ($300k), gregoai ($100K), and Liork ($50K), among many others.
That money went to the people who found the problems before attackers did. Every dollar paid to a security researcher represents a vulnerability that didn’t get exploited.
The network keeps growing: 4 new Elite-tier researchers this month (165 total), 25% more researchers receiving payouts than February, and total all-time payouts now at $133.9M, closing in on the $135M milestone.

- Shield my Bags feature development is well underway, with the big relaunch scheduled for April. There are two killer features part of this relaunch that will help crypto users take their security to the next level:
- Wallet Checker: Paste a wallet address, and Shield My Bags can scan crypto positions across 7 chains, map each to a protocol, check that protocol’s security posture, and return a verdict: dollar amount at risk (covered vs. uncovered) with a per-protocol breakdown featuring individual scores.
- Protocol Page: Each crypto protocol will now have a dedicated page showing their Security Score from 0 to 100 weighted across 5 dimensions.
